Sound Engineering Consultant

Purpose:
  Under limited supervision, performs complex evaluation of mitigation of outdoor music venues and of sound production used to transmit live and recorded productions in multiple media formats
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Evaluates technical quality of audio systems.
  2. Mitigates sound level issues with outdoor music venues.
  3. Evaluates and recommends layouts, flowcharts, and/or schematics of audio equipment.
  4. Integrates audio programming with live web casting and audio on demand equipment and needs.
  5. Provides expert advice to the permitting office.
  6. Creates, revises, and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) related to sound and sound production equipment for use by City staff.
  7. Regulates sound inputs and feeds and/or coordinates audio feeds with live broadcasts and recordings.
  8. Determines audio production equipment needs and makes recommendation for purchases.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge of Web media formats and related applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in sound Engineering, and Telecommunications or in a field related to the job plus four (4) years of related experience.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License.
