Climate Protection Coordinator

Purpose:
  Under general direction researches and analyzes scientific, policy, procedural, and regulatory developments related to climate change in order to develop programs
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Designs; develops; coordinates; implements; and evaluates educational or outreach programs, plans or procedures that promote climate protection awareness and initiatives.
  2. Analyzes and distills climate-related research findings to inform or make recommendations on program structure or program delivery to City leadership and other stakeholders.
  3. Proposes new or modify existing programs involving the use of traditional and alternative fuels, transportation of goods, and other factors relating to climate and climate protection.
  4. Coordinates and manages educational or outreach events, small projects, contracts, marketing, and on-line literature content to promote climate protection awareness and initiatives.
  5. Researches climate change policies, best practices, and environmental legislation to makes recommendations for climate protection, air quality, or environmental management initiatives.
  6. Prepares studies, reports, memoranda, briefs, or other written materials on climate protection to inform customers, City leadership, and other stakeholders.
  7. Provides analytical support for policy briefs and program development related to climate change, resource conservation, renewable energy, energy efficiency, or climate change.
  8. Reviews existing policies or legislation to identify impacts on existing climate or environmental policy.
  9. Prepares grant applications to obtain funding for programs related to climate change, environmental management, or sustainability

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures covering environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of climate change and measures to address climate change.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related software.
  • Ability to develop project plans, goals, objectives, and schedules.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Environmental Science, Marketing, Natural Science, Social Science, or a related field plus four (4) years of related experience.
  • Master's degree in an Environmental Science, Marketing, Natural Science, Social Science, Public Administration, or a related field plus two (2) years of related experience.
