Building & Grounds Lead

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, perform custodial, and grounds keeping tasks in and around City operated buildings, grounds, parks, airports and recreation areas.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Performs, assigns and inspects ground maintenance including mowing, raking and mulching leaves, irrigation systems and water consumption
  2. Performs and assigns minor building maintenance and repair.
  3. Performs and assigns custodial duties of restrooms, buildings and recreation areas.
  4. Coordinates crew work with other crews and groups of City employees or contractors.
  5. Prepares and dismantles exhibit halls and ballrooms for events
  6. Performs routine administrative duties
  7. Checks, cleans, and services equipment.
  8. Performs and oversees minor construction including erecting partitions, building or tearing down walls, painting, building and/or erecting storage sheds.
  9. Responds to citizen complaints.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
  • Fills in for supervisor in his or her absence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn janitorial or grounds keeping processes, policies, and procedures within the City Department in which assigned.
  • Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used in Building and Grounds services.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in handling multiple projects and prioritizing.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, and three (3) years experience related to janitorial or grounds keeping services, at least one (1) year of which includes crew experience.
  • One (1) year of additional experience may substitute for one (1) year of High School, up to a maximum of four (4) years substitution
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver's License for those vehicles.
