Purpose: |
|
Under general supervision, perform custodial, and grounds keeping tasks in and around City operated buildings, grounds, parks, airports and recreation areas. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Performs, assigns and inspects ground maintenance including mowing, raking and mulching leaves, irrigation systems and water consumption
- Performs and assigns minor building maintenance and repair.
- Performs and assigns custodial duties of restrooms, buildings and recreation areas.
- Coordinates crew work with other crews and groups of City employees or contractors.
- Prepares and dismantles exhibit halls and ballrooms for events
- Performs routine administrative duties
- Checks, cleans, and services equipment.
- Performs and oversees minor construction including erecting partitions, building or tearing down walls, painting, building and/or erecting storage sheds.
- Responds to citizen complaints.

- May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others
- Fills in for supervisor in his or her absence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: |
|
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn janitorial or grounds keeping processes, policies, and procedures within the City Department in which assigned.
- Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used in Building and Grounds services.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Skill in handling multiple projects and prioritizing.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with city employees and the public.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, and three (3) years experience related to janitorial or grounds keeping services, at least one (1) year of which includes crew experience.
- One (1) year of additional experience may substitute for one (1) year of High School, up to a maximum of four (4) years substitution

Licenses and Certifications Required: |
|
- If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver's License for those vehicles.
