Business Information Coordinator

Purpose:
  Ensure the success of the City's small business development initiatives in the Economic Development Department.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Provides direct services and coaching to customers, and responds to their requests for information on assistance available for small businesses.
  2. Provides information to entrepreneurs and small business owners on participating in City development and redevelopment activities.
  3. Identifies and formulates solutions to barriers faced by citizens wanting to start or expand a small business in Austin.
  4. Responsible for ongoing operational functions or specific projects as an internal team leader, single point of contact, or department liaison to other City departments.
  5. Identifies, develops, manages and evaluates programs that provide educational opportunities to small businesses, or promotional and outreach activities within the small business community.
  6. Develops policies and procedure for assisting and counseling small businesses.
  7. Meets with or make presentations to citizen's groups and City staff.
  8. Makes recommendations on small business development issues to management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of issues facing business owners.
  • Knowledge of business development programs.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, familiarity with basic construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of internet-based sources of information about procurement opportunities.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software as well as conducting research through the Internet.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy in all public dealings.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priority.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning or other relevant field and four (4) years experience with small business related fields, economic development related fields, or land development related fields, of which six months were spent in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Masters degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience
