Purpose: |

Under general direction, is responsible for coordinating and managing the City's planning activities for various projects to promote economic development within the City. May lead assigned staff in developing programs and projects designed to support the expansion of business growth within the City of Austin. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Develops economic business plans for public improvement and redevelopment projects.
- Solicits economic development proposals from private companies.
- Performs economic leadership duties with private developers on behalf of other City departments.
- Meets and works with citizen committees, neighborhood associations, non-profit groups, and special interest groups concerning economic development issues and problems.
- Analyzes real estate investment projects for the City.
- Negotiates development contracts with private developers.
- Monitors and manages all activities within the City of Austin that could possibly have an impact on economic development projects.
- Assists in attracting domestic and international businesses to the City of Austin.
- Provides assistance to all small business development initiatives; and other economic development, redevelopment, or capital improvement projects.
- Provides advice, as necessary, to City officials on legal concerns with regards to economic development issues.
- Presents reports and presentations, as necessary, on economic development to City Council members and other executives.

- Knowledge of project development, scheduling and monitoring.
- Knowledge of the principles involved in urban land development.
- Knowledge of real estate financing.
- Knowledge of municipal and private sector budgeting, accounting, and finance methods.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and methods.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Real Estate, Finance, Public Administration, or in a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in economic development, social service programs, real estate, or public finance.
- Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
