Equipment Repair Facilities Supervisor

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, directs the operation of department equipment repair facilities. Functions as the department's primary consultant for all matters pertaining to the purchase, maintenance and disposal of field equipment.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Responsible for publishing five (5) year strategic plan for equipment purchases, replacements and the yearly plan for budgetary purposes.
  2. Responsible for maintaining database for all field equipment for Utility, and maintaining life cycle documentation for use in proposed Utility data warehouse (coordination with AWU ITS).
  3. Responsible for developing specifications for the purchase of all field equipment, insuring that those specifications meet the operational needs of work groups. Coordinate the purchase of all field equipment with the appropriate agent.
  4. Maintains warranty information on all field equipment. Insures that all required actions are met to keep warranty intact, and that equipment is repaired by manufacturer representatives when appropriate.
  5. Develops tracks and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for equipment assigned all work groups notifying customers of "due and missed dates".
  6. Directs personnel in the daily operation of the departmental equipment repair facilities.
  7. Assists in the development of equipment repair facilities budget and monitors monthly progress and monitors and verifies time sheets, and sick and vacation usage.
  8. Reviews, authorizes, and tracks parts room invoices, purchases orders, parts orders, fuel orders, overhead, inventory, monitors contracts/agreements and responsible for following prescribed procedures.
  9. Manages and maintains environmental standards, and encourages a safe work environment.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of equipment repair operations including, quality control methods, job standards, processing of work orders, pricing, labor hours, and equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of environmental standards.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus five (5) years of direct work experience involving the maintenance and repair of complex mechanical equipment, with two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity. 
  • Combination of equivalent experience and education may substitute for the minimum qualifications
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • If required, must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment with the City.
Physical Requirements:
 
  • Essential duties are performed in a repair facility environment with exposure to a variety of motorized equipment, spare parts, tools, oil and lubrication, corrosive liquids, and other potentially hazardous materials.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to loud noises, warm and cold conditions, standing for long periods, some stooping and bending, and lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Individuals need to have good eye-and-hand coordination and read and write in dimly lighted conditions
