Fleet Fuel Specialist

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative and technical functions related to monitoring and maintaining the City¿s automated fueling infrastructure.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Maintains adequate critical fuel supplies for the City of Austin.
  2. Monitors automated fuel system, including fuel inventories, fuel transactions and tank levels of all fuel sites.
  3. Issues purchase orders, orders fuel, schedules replenishment of fuel site inventory and maintains fuel site records.
  4. Maintains functionality of the automated fueling system.
  5. Schedules preventive equipment maintenance, respond to regular and after-hours site failures and customer reports, troubleshoot malfunctions using computerized diagnostic tools, provide corrective maintenance and coordinates with equipment vendors to correct and/or repair fuel system malfunctions.
  6. Inputs data into automated fuel system
  7. Assists with site inspections and compliance with all state and federal mandated laws and regulations.
  8. Prepares and submits various reports to Fleet management.
  9. Provides customer service, issues fuel cards and assists department staff with the purchase of fuel products.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of quality control methods, job standards, and work order processing.
  • Knowledge of fleet fuel operations, fuel pricing, fuel equipment and fuel inventory management.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in fuel and alternative fuel.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to provide hands-on training to personnel.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other city employees and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to fuel operations.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Commercial Driver License with Hazardous Materials endorsement
  • TCEQ Undergound Storage Tank Operator A/B Certification
