Division Manager, Convention Center

Purpose:
 
Under general direction and working independently, organizes, develops, manages, and leads a major division or program(s) of the Austin Convention Center Department.
 
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Plans, organizes, directs, and reviews development and coordination of a division with the Austin Convention Center Department.
  2. Develops, manages and implements strategic business plan for the division. 
  3. Develops, manages, and provides consulting for client events resulting in revenue growth
  4. Develops, manages and monitors division operating budget(s).
  5. Develops, monitors, and reports on performance measures for the division
  6. Presents to executive management on division and customer service issues, attends industry, community, Council and Commission meetings, as required.
  7. Ensures division services are in compliance with all appropriate sections of the City code and other ordinances.
  8. Develops, negotiates, and manages contracts to execute event operation services.
  9. Develops, manages, implements, and monitors standard operating procedures, policies, and procedures.
  10. Coordinates department projects with city departments, department consultants, and other similar service providers and interacts with internal and external customers to assess and deliver business services.
 
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection; training; evaluation; counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
May represent Director, Assistant Director and department at industry functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of event operations.
Knowledge of maintenance services.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving..
  • Ability to perform conflict resolution and negotiations.
  • Ability to work well with individuals from a variety of different backgrounds and experience.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with City employees and the public.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university with coursework in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or other relevant field plus five (5) years of managerial experience in a convention center, public assembly/event facility or in a highly technical area that requires supervision of professional and technical personnel.
Experience may substitute for the education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
