International Program Manager

Purpose:
  Under general direction of the Office of the City Clerk, the incumbent of this position serves as a program manager to plan, develop, and implement mutually beneficial economic, educational, and cultural exchanges with public officials and citizens of foreign nations.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Facilitates the initiatives of the program by serving as an advisor to elected officials, department representatives, and volunteers on international protocol, cross-cultural communications, and gift-giving etiquette.
2. Fosters and maintains favorable public image for the City of Austin's International Program by providing recommendations, initiating and maintaining relations, and developing programs.
3. Provides diplomatic guidance to governmental, educational, business, and cultural organizations.
4 .Arranges and conducts exchanges with international visitors
5. Arranges and coordinates visits to foreign countries by city officials, when travel is separate from official Sister City delegations
6. Promotes goodwill by managing the flow of information and cultivating media interest in the International Program.
7. Researches and stores data to maintain consistency of program operations.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of international affairs.
Ability to manage and relay public relations information.
Ability to establish partnerships with businesses and other organizations, both local and abroad.
Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in using computers and related software.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to speak publicly.
Ability to author various types of correspondence, i.e. speeches, press releases, lectures.
Ability to manage diverse relationships with various communities.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, International Affairs or related degree and five (5) years of related experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  None.
