Fleet Service Center Manager

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, directs the operation of a service center including, staffing, customer relations, interpretation of policies, managing the operational budget, providing reports on productivity, and other work that contributes to the effective operation of the facility.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Directs personnel in the daily operation of the service center including, scheduling, resolving operational complaints, maintaining effective customer relations, and interpreting and maintaining compliance with City and division policies and procedures.
  2. Manages federal and state statutory requirements, like permits, for facility usage.
  3. Establishes staffing plans and processes to ensure effective quality services.
  4. Develops service center budget and monitors monthly progress and approves expenditures; controls petty cash; and monitors and rectifies employee Labor Reconciliation reports, road call reports, down reports.
  5. Tracks and maintains preventative maintenance schedules for all sections assigned to each service center, notifying customers of due and missed dates.
  6. Reviews, authorizes, and tracks parts room invoices, purchases orders, parts orders, fuel orders, overhead, inventory, and negotiates and monitors contracts/agreements and responsible for following prescribed procedures.
  7. Manages hazardous waste generation, maintains environmental standards, and encourages a safe work environment.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  1. Knowledge of the methods, equipment, and materials used in servicing automobiles and other applicable equipment.
  2. Knowledge of fiscal and budget preparation.
  3. Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
  4. Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  5. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  6. Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  7. Skill in oral and written communication.
  8. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  9. Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  10. Skill in planning and organizing.
  11. Skill in using computers and related software.
  12. Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.
  13. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Seven (7) years of experience working in a major automotive or related maintenance and repair facility, with three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Combination of equivalent experience and education may substitute for the minimum qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Licensed for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • To be considered for employment in this position applicants must comply with Department of Transportation Federal Regulations and the City of Austin Drug Policy.
Physical Requirements:
 
  • Essential duties are performed in a service center environment working in office conditions and exposure to motorized equipment, spare parts, tools, oil and lubrication, corrosive liquids, and other potentially hazardous materials.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to loud noise, and warm and cold conditions.
  • Individual will need to have good eye-and-hand coordination, and read and write in dimly lit conditions, and lift between up to thirty-five (35) pounds
