Convention Maintenance & Services Manager

Purpose:
  Under general direction, manage the preventative maintenance activities and event operation programs for the Austin Convention Center and the Palmer Event Center.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Manages preventative maintenance programs that include fire and security systems, HVAC control systems, and lighting systems.
2. Contracts management with regards to contracted systems that are in place to help service the client.
3. Assists in long and short range planning affecting building maintenance programs and staffing.
4. Interprets/explains/enforces city policies & procedures, building codes specifications, ordinances. Provides technical advice & assistance to field personnel, contractors, etc.
5. Develops and revises operating procedures.
6. Coordinates division/section activities with other divisions/sections, outside contractors, etc.
7. Develops and monitors division/section budget.
8. Compiles data for reports, cost and estimates, etc.
9. Enforces safety rules.
10. Serves as the customer service representative at designated facility.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of general characteristics relating to convention type facilities, machinery and equipment.
Knowledge of management techniques sufficient to direct the activities of a program or division.
Knowledge of local ordinances and building codes.
Knowledge of proper safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in using computers and related software.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to evaluate the needs for routine or emergency maintenance repair.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities
Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration or a related field plus three (3) years of convention or similar facility maintenance experience, one (1) year of which must be in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Experience may substitute for the education at the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  Current valid Texas Driver's License.
