Convention Operations Manager

Purpose:
  Under the general direction of the Convention Facility Manager, this position is responsible for managing the daily operational activities for the Austin Convention Center and Palmer Event Center.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Identifies staffing needs for daily operations of the Austin Convention Center and Palmer Event Center and ensure that both facilities are operating at optimum capacity.
2. Develops and maintains the division's operating budget and make fiscal recommendations for capital improvements.
3. Ensures all department division and contractors coordinate resources to meet client and facility needs.
4. Acts as a liaison for contractors and businesses in the area.
5. Conducts facility inspections on a regular basis to ensure that safety concerns are addressed for both customers and employees.
6. Responsible for the development and coordination of security and maintenance needs to ensure customer satisfaction.
7. Responsible for reviewing other facilities both at the local and national level to develop new long-range goals that help improve efficiency.
8. Authorizes and approve the purchase of supplies, services and materials associated with the administration and operation of the facilities
9. Addresses all customer complaints and inquires, and assist in the resolution of conflicts and difficult situations.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  Required for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of convention facilities and related areas.
Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and methods.
Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in using computers and related software.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to manage multi-disciplines such as, maintenance of facilities and other operational needs.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to manage a revenue enterprise.
Ability to evaluate contract agreements.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Ability to deal with compliance issues.
Ability to complete projects within the required scheduling, and the ability to make prompt customer service.
Ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy in all public dealings.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field, plus five (5) years of related work experience, three (3) of which are specific to the public event facility industry, and one (1) of which was in a management capacity.

Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in convention or similar facilities may be substituted for the above requirements
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  Current valid Texas Driver's License.
