Music Program Manager

Purpose:
  Under general direction from the Deputy Director of Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office, provide leadership and management of the City's music related programs and services. Facilitate collaboration of all invested parties to ensure success of programs and services.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Preserves and enhances Austin's status as "Live Music Capital of the World".
  2. Plans short and long term strategies.
  3. Fosters economic and community music program development.
  4. Explores creation of and implements new programs and services.
  5. Arranges liaisons with the Music Commission.
  6. Manages and administers music programs and contracts.
  7. Coordinates functions related to music and economic development.
  8. Provides requested reports of program and service activity.
  9. Prepares and makes presentations to public committees, commissions and groups
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the music industry and industry partners.
  • Knowledge of trends in the music industry.
  • Knowledge of civic governance.
  • Knowledge of grants and grant funding.
  • Knowledge of contracts and contracting procedures.
  • Knowledge of economic and community development.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to speak publicly.
  • Ability to build interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships and maintain productive relationships with board members, staff, public officials, diverse constituencies and interested parties.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years
