Plan Review Coordinator

Purpose:
 

Under minimal direction, performs a wide variety of technical and specialized duties to ensure compliance with applicable city codes and ordinances for development related plans and permitting requirements.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Performs a variety of technical work involved in the acceptance, review, and processing of all types of development applications and permits issued by the City.
  2. Provides information including quoting and calculating fees and suggesting types of permits needed.
  3. Answers questions related to and provides information on applicable codes and regulations.
  4. Issues comments and prepares and distributes comment reports to applicants.
  5. Provides application and permit information to contractors, property owners, development professionals, and the public including calculating fees, answering questions, and providing information on applicable codes and regulations.
  6. Reviews and interprets plans and specifications to determine compliance with related City codes, ordinances, and submittal requirements.
  7. Assists in the scheduling of and keeping of records of reviews; keeps records of and provides billings of fees; and ensures proper filing and logging of plans and related documents for the permanent record.
  8. Assists in the development and maintenance of procedure and policy manuals.
  9. Updates and maintains system records.
  10. Handles escalated inquiries and complaints from customers, contractors, property owners, development professionals, and the public.
  11. Responsible for approval of projects and creates and issues permits for applicants.

  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of codes and related State and Local regulations.
  • Knowledge of application and permit requirements.
  • Knowledge of architectural or civil drawing practices, symbols, and abbreviations.
  • Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of good customer relations practices.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to perform analyses to determine compliance with or deviation from applicable codes.
  • Ability to communicate code requirements orally and in writing to architects, contractors, developers, and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field plus two (2) years of experience in planning related work.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years
