Radio Installer II

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, perform tasks to install, remove, and replace two-way mobile radio equipment and other electronic devices in City vehicles.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Installs radio transmitter/receivers, antennas, emergency lights, sirens computers, controllers, video systems and other electronic equipment into City vehicles and emergency vehicles.
2. Troubleshoots and repair malfunctioning systems and equipment.
3. Operates power tools and hand tools, as needed to accomplish tasks.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training and guidance to others. .
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures and regulations applicable to the work being performed..
Knowledge of tools and equipment used to install, test and calibrate electronic equipment.
Knowledge of current and applicable FCC regulations.
Knowledge of radio communication equipment and components.
Knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to read and understand schematic drawings and technical manuals.
Ability to operate power tools.
Ability to trace malfunction in electrical or electronic equipment.
Ability to train others.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience installing, repairing, replacing automotive electrical or electronic devices.

Successful completion of a technical school program in electronics may substitute for the required experience up to the maximum of two (2) years.
