Purpose: |

Under minimal supervision, perform tasks involving radio communication systems installation, maintenance, and repair for City departments and Interlocal Agreement agencies. |
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Troubleshoots a wide variety of communication systems, diagnoses maintenance or repair problems.
- Maintains VHF, UHF, 800 MHz voice and data radio system infrastructures, mobile and portable units, electronic radio ID and signaling systems, 9-1-1 recording systems, microwave systems, AM broadcast stations, emergency lighting and siren systems, communications consoles, telephone interfaces, and a variety of other electronic systems.
- Develops work schedules and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Checks for correct use of electronic test equipment and electrician hand tools such as soldering devices, snips, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches and wire cutters, etc.
- Monitors for proper use of power tools such as saws, drills, buffers, grinders and sanders. .
- Quality checks installations of communication systems and system components, use appropriately installed software programs to program equipment and research maintenance histories, open and close work orders.
- Checks on the adequacy and quality of repairs made by assigned technician, installer, and other staff and outside vendors.
- Updates electronic databases, writes reports, creates spread sheets and uses other computer software.
- May be required to be "on call" after normal business hours.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and installation of radio communication systems, equipment, and components.
- Knowledge of proper safety practices and procedures and regulations applicable to the work being performed.
- Knowledge of current and applicable Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rules.
- Knowledge of computer and software systems to support maintenance and repair operations, and can instruct other to do so.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
- Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software.
- Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
- Ability to train others to repair, maintain and install radio communication systems, equipment, and components.
- Ability to judge the quality and adequacy of repairs done by others.
- Ability to work from drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Ability to trace malfunctions in electrical or electronic equipment.
- Ability to understand and use new maintenance and repair techniques and technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience assisting in the installion, maintenance and/or repair of radio communications systems and equipment.
- Successful completion of technical school program in electronics may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.

Licenses and Certifications Required: |
|
- Class "C" driver's license, however Class "B" preferred.
|
Physical Requirements: |
|
- Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
