Sales & Events Manager

Purpose:
  Under general direction; coordinate the activities and operations of the division/staff involved in providing event planning, sales and booking processes, and management liaison services for a public assembly/event facility
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Monitors facility booking, scheduling and event planning. Markets and promotes activities that will maximize facility and event bookings.
2. Manages and assists in developing/maintaining client database and booking system.
3. Develops, approves and negotiates client contracts. Enforces rules, regulations, policies and contractual terms concerning use of facilities.
4 .Manages public relations for department/facilities. Oversees and approves the development of marketing literature for department/facilities. Conducts market research and surveys. Conducts presentations and tours of facilities for informational and promotional purposes.
5. Develops and evaluates long range market planning/strategies for the department/facilities.
6. Acts as department liaison for neighborhood associations, industry. user groups, etc.
7. Manages sales and marketing relationship with Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau. Coordinates department marketing plan with Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau. Assists Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau with presenting convention bid packages to clients.
8. Represents department/facilities at industry trade shows.
9. Compiles data and develop reports for management.
10. .Plans and/or coordinates events/activities with other divisions/departments. Develops and maintains budget for event management/sales division. Develops policies and procedures relating to division activities
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
  Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
May act on behalf of Convention Center Manager when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service and personal services.
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
Knowledge of marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resources allocation, human resources, production methods and coordination of people.
Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques and methods.
Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and processes.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in using computers and related software.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Liberal Arts, Business Administration or related field, plus five (5) years of relevant work experience in a convention center, public assembly/event facility or other related facility/industry, two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years
