| Purpose: |

Working independently and exercising discretion and judgment, the general purpose of this position is to perform skilled tasks in the design and manufacture of signs such as traffic signs and other exterior signs, as well as interior building signs such as directional signs, ADA and life safety signs, banners, and nameplates. |
| Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
| |
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Utilizes various software to design and create departmental street signs, terminal signs, advertising/promotional signs, and traffic and directional signs.
- Repairs and maintains departmental street signs, terminal signs, advertising/promotional signs, and traffic and directional signs.
- Researches proper sign specifications to ensure adherence to all traffic and safety regulations.
- Communicates with internal and external customers for exact specifications and signage logistics.
- Resolves signage related complaints/issues.
- Operates equipment to create, transport, and install signs, i.e., forklifts, bucket trucks, hand tools, plotter, scissor lifts, and auger drills.
- Reviews, analyzes, and completes work orders.
- Assists departmental divisions in regards to designing and creating signs, scoreboards, etc.
- Performs administrative duties such as documenting requests and other information, copying and faxing documents, corresponding via email and telephone, etc.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of specialized computers, scanners, software, plotters, silk screening equipment and engravers.
- Knowledge of basic sign maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
- Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software.
- Ability to use mathematics for accurate measurements.
- Ability to mix paint or inks to maximize the capabilities of sign-making computers.
- Ability to operate bucket trucks, forklifts, auger lift, and other required equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public

| Minimum Qualifications: |
| |
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience in sign maintenance, sign repair, creation, printing and modification which may include one year of operating heavy equipment
|
| Licenses and Certifications Required: |
| |
- Current Texas Motor Vehicle Operator License appropriate for vehicle(s) operated or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
