Sports Facilities Coordinator

Purpose:
  Under general direction, manage and perform the grounds maintenance of 16 athletic sports facilities, providing direction to staff responsible for year round, seven day per week athletic facility maintenance, and ensuring that playing facilities are kept in the best possible conditions, adjusting for weather, climate, playing demands, and budgetary constraints.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Oversees the turf maintenance of outfields and athletic playing fields, and surrounding landscaping to conform to U.S. Golf Association standards and industry standards.
2. Plans and implements cultivation programs and disease, insect, and week control programs to ensure optimal playing surfaces under a wide variety of conditions.
3. Assists in the design of modifications to athletic facilities, concession and maintenance areas. Designs and maintains the landscaping of the acreage surrounding the athletic facilities. Maintains detailed records and reports of turf maintenance activities.
4. Provides technical expertise such as reviewing test results of soil and turf samples, directing the application of fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide, and dealing with weather-related problems such as heat, floods, windstorms, and freezes.
5. Communicates with athletic staff, participants, advisory boards, concessionaires and related parties to ensure sports facilities are coordinated for tournaments and other activities.
6. Initiates requisitions, work orders, and schedules to ensure proper coordination of activities within PARD, other City departments and contractors.
7. Monitors annual operating budget to ensure expenses remain within budget allocations.
8. Writes specifications and provide technical assistance in the purchase of necessary equipment.
9 Performs or provides direction to staff in the repair, installation and maintenance to existing or new irrigation systems. Performs or provides direction to staff in minor plumbing or electrical upgrades/repairs to scoreboards, restrooms, concession area and office.
10. Responsible for preventative maintenance upkeep and replacement/repair on small engine/tools or other equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Associate's degree in Golf Course Turf Management or related field, plus three (3) years of experience in golf course grounds maintenance or sports facilities.

Experience may substitute for the education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver's License for those vehicles.
