Treatment Plant Operations Senior

Purpose:
  Under general direction, plans, participates in, conducts, and leads personnel assigned to the operation of a water/wastewater treatment plant. Uses broad and comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in analyzing treatment plant operations.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Monitors operation of plant and coordinates shift activities. .Conducts periodic checks of plant operational equipment by checking equipment, monitors and adjusts flows, feeds equipment, and backwashes filters.
2. Interprets policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
3. Collects samples, and completes chemical tests/analysis of in-process treatment of water and wastewater. Performs process quality control testing, i.e., jar testing, settle ability, solids inventory. Performs chemical inventory and calculates chemical dosages.
4. Initiates and completes work orders.
5 Reads and interprets blueprints/diagrams/drawings/manufacturer manuals.
6. Monitors instrumentation control panels.
7. Calculates figures for reports; and analyzes and interprets data and prepares reports.
8. Coordinates equipment outage and equipment operation. Enters and retrieves data using automated systems and computer.
9. Mixes, stirs and pours a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous solvents/chemicals.
10. Answers citizen questions and provides assistance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plant operations.
Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedure.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and related software.
Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
Skill in the use of computers and related software.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to lead others.
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of progressively responsible operational experience in a comparably sized water/wastewater treatment plant.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  Current Class B Texas Water/Wastewater Certificate of Competency.
Valid current Texas Class "C" Driver's License.
May require valid Texas Commercial Drivers License with endorsements.
Must be able to become certified for Respiratory Protection
