Purpose:
 

Under general direction, responsible for the management, administration, and development of the Austin History Center Recordings Collection.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Develops and implements the rules and procedures of the Austin History Center Recordings Collection.
  2. Researches, initiates and implements storage and retrieval systems for video footage.
  3. Manages recordings collection, including acquisitions, cataloging and filing new video and audio materials.
  4. Compiles finding aids, reference guides articles, statistics, and reports.
  5. Provides archival reference and research services to patrons of the Austin History Center.
  6. Pursues new sources of programming.
  7. Maintains the necessary records concerning usage of footage, i.e., contracts, releases, etc.
  8. Maintains the inventory audio/video of equipment and furniture.
  9. Explains, interprets and enforces policies to the public and staff.
  10. Outreach to the public; prepares, coordinates, presents and hosts programs, classes and tours to market the recording collection and to provide cultural and educational and training opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Audio/Video formats and recording techniques.
  • Knowledge of audio/video preservation issues.
  • Knowledge of archival issues and trends.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in planning an organizing.
  • Ability to use of audio/video recordings and dubbing equipment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining good relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field relating to Radio, Television and Film (RTF), Business, or Marketing plus five (5) years experience in a related field.
  • Graduation with a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Archival Enterprise or Radio, Film, and Television may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
