Welder Lead

Purpose:
  Under general supervision, perform lead activities in completing welding projects.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Reads profiles and blueprints.
2. Checks equipment for proper operation, safety, and/or needed maintenance.
3. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc. Operate acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc. Operates fork-lift, soldering tools, boom trucks and winch trucks, etc.
4. Develops material takeoffs for construction plans.
5. Records data on appropriate form/log, etc.
6. Takes measurements using tapes, transits, levels, etc.
7. Checks, cleans, and services equipment, pumps, power tools, etc.
8. Layouts, fits, and welds structural steel, aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, etc, to fabricate, repair, and install tools, parts, equipment, etc.
9.Cuts out and replaces sections of pipe, valves, etc, using cutting torches and welding equipment.
10. Repairs boilers and condensers.

  Trains and leads others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of the methods, procedures, tools, materials, and equipment used in welding metal structures.
Knowledge safety rules and procedures.
Knowledge of general repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Ability to use tools and equipment used in welding operations.
Ability to determine types of welds needed on various metals.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
Ability to lead and train others.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of welding experience repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  Texas Class "B" driver's license for a position in the Fleet Services Division of the Financial Services Department.
