Distribution Construction Coordinator II

Purpose:
 

Under general supervision, coordinates and schedules electric construction projects and advance locating activities with commercial, private, and public construction and excavation entities.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Coordinates inspections of construction projects to ensure underground utilities are located and site is workable, to include requesting permits from Public Works to work in city right of way.
  2. Identifies, inspects, and marks all under or above ground Austin Energy electrical cables, electrical conduits, and 90 Meter base connections.
  3. Expedites, reviews, and inspects distribution construction projects to ensure ready to work for Austin Energy.
  4. Assists in creating and updating work orders, generates and activates material orders. Assists in process and expedites purchase of non-stock goods and services, maintains files and collects data for reports.
  5. Monitors purchasing constructions materials for the AE or Contract construction crews.
  6. Manages underground prints for utilization and research by construction contractors to improve construction coordination.
  7. Maintains databases for various tracking of documentation for coordination of electrical construction projects.
  8. Assists in the assessment of material and products to ensure best fit distribution construction needs.
  9. Advises customers and contractors of project timelines and related tasks

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of one-call system and distribution construction methods and standards
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution and construction standards for public and private structures
  • Knowledge of departmental process and procedures
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures
  • Knowledge of stages of construction when possible violations and defects may be observed and corrected
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and associated rules, regulations, ordinances and standards
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy, procedure, statutes, and ordinances.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years experience in road or utility construction.
  • Twelve (12) semester hours in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Construction Sciences, or in a field related to the job, may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License or the ability to acquire one by the date of hire.
  • Ability to produce and maintain an acceptable driving record.
