Purpose: |

Oversees the development, coordination, and administration of social and community equity policies and practices for the City of Austin.
|
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: |
|
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Implements and oversees programs designed to ensure fair and equitable treatment of citizens.
- Develops and implements training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion.
- Promotes commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through interaction with individuals and agencies, including Council executive staff, supervisory staff, employees, students, the public, and community leaders from all ethnic-cultural groups, civic, and grass-root organizations.
- Communicates and articulates Equity and Inclusion policy for the general public, governmental enforcing agencies, political and community group leaders, and grass-root organizations, staff, stakeholders, and partner organizations.
- Researches, promotes, and provides advice, guidance and support on equity, equality, and diversity issues.
- Develops and implements equity assessment tools.
- Assesses community needs and promotes community cohesion to stimulate changes within organizations and the wider community.
- Develops systems for reporting incidents of discrimination, liaising with community groups and other relevant organizations, and responds to complaints, providing information on options for complainants.
- Maintains knowledge of anti-discriminatory legislation.

- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of current issues related to diversity and inclusion
- Knowledge of City Council mandates and municipal needs
- Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of public administration.
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
- Skill in oral and written communications.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software applications.
- Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
- Skill in preparing and analyzing budgets, reports, and studies.
- Ability to maintain effective communication and working relationships with Boards and Commissions, city employees and the public.
- Ability to develop strategic direction and program implementation collaboratively with various stakeholder/community groups.

Minimum Qualifications: |
|
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, or in a field related to the job, plus seven (7) years of diversity program related experience, two (2) years of which were in a managerial capacity.
- Master’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
