Internal Auditor I

Purpose:
 

Under general direction, performs entry-level auditing work which includes investigating, reviewing, and analyzing financial information, internal controls, operational performance, and management practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and guidelines.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Assist with narrow-scope audits, small projects, or fraud investigations
2. Collect, review, and analyze various types of information and data that are significant to the project
3. Perform interviews of personnel in the course of performing projects
4. Perform tests of internal controls to ensure safeguarding of assets, compliance with laws and policies, accomplishment of objectives, reliability of information, and efficiency of operations
5. Prepare work papers and summaries
6. Develop conclusions and recommend improvements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to adhere to appropriate professional standards, including the Yellow Book and Red Book
  • Knowledge of the concepts for review and evaluation of internal control systems and auditing procedures
  • Skilled in effective oral and/or written communication
  • Skilled in completing assigned duties and functions in a timely and effective manner
  • Skilled in determining needs, gathering, analyzing and presenting data to provide accurate information for management's use
  • Skilled in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment
  • Skilled in analyzing data to discover patterns and discrepancies
  • Proficient at collecting information according to an established project plan
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining good working relations with other City employees and the public
  • Skilled in working with others to achieve project goals and objectives
  • Ability to maintain integrity, objectivity, and independence and implement appropriate standards of care in all scopes of work.
  • Ability to seek and accept coaching/feedback from others and use that feedback to improve performance
  • Ability to maintain high ethical standards in difficult situations
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • 4 year degree in accounting, business, social sciences, public administration, or related field
