Inventory Control Supervisor I

Purpose:
 

Under general direction, supervises the operations, activities and personnel engaged in materials and inventory management.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Monitors and ensures section operates efficiently within appropriated budget. schedules expenditures; analyzes variances, initiates corrective actions and assists with procurement activities.
  2. Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results.
  3. Controls inventory levels by reviewing data recorded in tracking system, retrieving data, designing reports and directing corrective actions to manage the inventory levels.
  4. Reconciles physical inventory to inventory control records and addresses and resolves variances.
  5. Provides support to departmental staff by researching and resolving discrepancies, recommending actions to manage inventory levels, and disbursement of inventory.
  6. Ensures warehouse safety and security by maintaining compliance with guidelines, reporting discrepancies, and recommending corrective action.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of fundamental inventory control procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices related to purchasing.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
  • Ability to perform detailed work in an accurate and organized manner.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and train a multi-disciplinary workforce.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in a warehouse/inventory control atmosphere or material handling, two (2) years of which includes experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Education may substitute for experience up to the maximum of two (2) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
 
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers License, if required for the position
  • If required for position, legally mandated training must be completed within 1 year of employment.
