Airport Strategy and Innovation Manager

Purpose:
 

Under the direction of executive management, this position develops, manages, and coordinates Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) strategic planning, business transformation, and innovation programs, projects, and initiatives.  

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  1. Oversees development of the strategic planning, business transformation, and innovation.
  2. Provides leadership for the discovery, development, and scoping of new solutions to solve internal business problems, create competitive advantage, and transform the travel experience.
  3. Engages airport stakeholders to discover, create, test, and deploy viable solutions to advance the vision of convenient travel.
  4. Serves as an innovation champion to build innovation capabilities, drive creative thinking, and promote employee engagement. Creates partnerships internally and externally for innovation to be most successful.
  5. Guides and facilitates cross-functional teams to experiment and discover new approaches to meet customer needs and deliver exceptional consumer experiences, maintains or grows market and revenue, and transforms the business. Applies appropriate tools and design thinking methodologies.
  6. Leads the oversight and accountability for implementation of the strategic plan. Establishes organizational goals, objectives, and strategies and develops supporting action plans and key performance indicators to track progress.
  7. Facilitates strategic planning retreats with executive staff, aviation staff, and airport stakeholders. Develops a workable organizational framework to enhance the mission and initiatives deemed important by executive management.
  8. Assesses the current state of the organization, its operations and services, internal and external dynamics, and other factors. Conducts organizational reviews, communicates results to top management, and develops strategies for corrective actions.
  9. Researches and analyzes emerging trends, industry best practices, and promising “next” practices; and makes recommendations to management.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:
 

Responsible for a full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, and recommendation for dismissal.

  • Knowledge of internal and open innovation approaches.
  • Knowledge of strategic co-creation and design thinking methodologies.
  • Knowledge of process improvement, lean, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Knowledge of performance measure principles and standards; quality assurance procedures, programs, and analysis; and statistical analysis and principles.
  • Knowledge of leadership, supervisory, and/or managerial techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of business strategies, objectives, planning, and management processes.
  • Knowledge of applicable City of Austin, State, and Federal statutes, ordinances, and codes.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies, cost/benefit analysis, and financial models.
  • Skill in handling conflict resolution.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communications and presentations.
  • Skill in providing internal and external consulting services.
  • Skill in designing and facilitating engaging and productive workshops.
  • Skill in project management methods.
  • Skill in utilizing interpersonal skills for engaging all stakeholders and facilitating meetings with different/various groups.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply detailed and complex information.
  • Ability to manage implementation of recommendations.
  • Ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary workforce.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and present plans and proposals.
  • Ability to gather, compile, and interpret industry data/trends.
  • Ability to effectively direct, plan, and set priorities; and assign work to staff and/or others to manage multiple projects, programs, tasks, resources, and timelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job, plus five (5) years of professional-level work experience in a related field, including two (2) years of experience which were in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Graduation with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
