Department Mission

The mission of the Office of the City Clerk is to promote an environment throughout Austin City government that encourages efficiency, compliance, and transparency by implementing progressive policies and procedures that foster effective sharing of information with the City Council, City staff, candidates, voters, media and citizens.

Department Goals

Promote transparency and access to City information/records.
Conduct accessible elections that comply with election laws through enhanced collaboration with relevant county election administrators as well as coordination with GIS mapping services.
Promote records management best practice and compliance with state and city records management requirements.
Promote active citizen participation that fosters an environment that informs elected officials with information needed when making policy decisions.

Key Performance Indicators

  1. Information Governance Number of departmental projects, record types, or business processes added to the EDIMS project annually
  2. Percent of data published to the data hub portal in compliance with the established deadlines
  3. Percent of elections held that comply with election laws
  4. Percent of new Board & Commission members completing the required training within the established guidelines
  5. Percent of time City code is codified within 30 days of submitting to publisher
