Department Mission

The Austin City Attorney's Office provides trusted legal support to City leaders and employees, helping ensure decisions and actions are made lawfully and with integrity. In FY24, the legal team managed approximately 14,000 cases. This included representing the City and its employees in civil lawsuits and legal claims, as well as prosecuting all Class C misdemeanors in Municipal Court. The Austin City Attorney's Office staff also draft and review a wide range of legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, interlocal agreements to support the City's operations and initiatives.

  1. Percent of Public Information Act (PIA) requestors who receive an acknowledgement within 10 business days
  2. Percent of civil lawsuits that are resolved in favor of the City or within an established settlement range
  3. Percent of clients satisfied with timeliness of legal advice
